Football Orphan: Blatter would rather listen to his Ipod, than any sensible suggestions.

Blater would rather listen to his Ipod, than any sensible suggestions.

Well, well, well. Septic Blatter is at it again. He believes that there is no racism in football. There’s also no homophobia either I suppose Sepp? This is the man who told homosexual people to just avoid, or else sneak to the World Cup in Qatar given that it is illegal there. When asked about the ladies game he once responded that it’s a little boring, they should wear tighter kits. Just a quick reminder, this is the man at the very top of football. There is no more senior person than him.

Other sports must either cringe or crack up laughing at the ridiculous nature of the governing body of football. It just goes from one embarrassing calamity to the next. Where will it all end? Most national football associations have one problem or another with the way things are run at the very top. I’m sure all of you reading this will be thinking of an example. In my opinion there many ways to disolve this horrendous regime. The most ghastly solution would be for all heavyweights involved in FIFA , England, Germany, Spain, Italy and Brasil etc, to form a breakaway and reform all the obvious rules that require it. A little less extreme, call a union meeting a threaten a strike until the man at the top who is incapable of continuing his position steps down.

Today, Gordon Taylor the head of the PFA, has called for Blatter to offer his resignation. Only those bold enough to stand up for what they believe is correct will do the same. This is a sport that we love, I personally have been completely in love with football for over twenty-five years. There is nothing more evident after these recent preposterous statements by Blatter, is that football desperately needs to be cleaned up and have pride restored by someone truly capable of nurturing it back to full health.

Football Orphan: Fixture congestion and Fifa election.

The age-old chestnut of fixture congestion was raised again earlier in the week. An emergency meeting was called by the FA to discuss the timing of the FA Cup semi finals. It seems every year the same issue is raised, the same solutions are suggested and nothing is ever  resolved.

We now find ourselves in an international break and will be inundated with news updates of club Vs country. While I’m not in  favour of the suggestion of the  smaller countries pre-qualifying just to enter the qualifying process I do believe that the international calendar interrupts the club season with regularity.

All the major leagues of Europe are now in the home straight of a long season. Just when coaches need to keep their squads together for an important run in, players begin flying to all corners of the globe. Not all of the upcoming international games are qualifiers, so not to miss an opportunity, money spinning friendlies are arranged. The obvious solution to me would be to have international games in blocks of three and have less interruption of club football.

There never appears to be as much suggested reform raised for any other sport as much as there is for football. It is the most popular sport in the world. The governing body is immensely powerful but still cannot get its house in order. I believe if Fifa was run as a true democratic system, it would probably lead to anarchy. I have no problem with one man calling all the shots, but the man with the power is clueless when it comes to what is actually ‘for the good of the game’.

Potentially the best news that football has received in many a year is that Sepp Blatter will have a credible challenger to his thirteen year reign at the next Fifa election on June 1st in the shape of Asian Confederation chief Mohammed Bin Hammam. Not many outside of his jurisdiction are familiar with his work  but it is abundantly clear that a change is needed for the progress football, and never before will a Fifa election be so eagerly anticipated.
